1930 Grandmothers Garden Coat
Made from a beautiful c. 1930s Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt, this one-of-a-kind coat gives an antique textile a completely new life.
Grandmother’s Flower Garden became especially popular during the 1920s and 1930s, and the soft green “garden paths,” pastel florals and tiny printed cottons seen in this quilt are wonderfully characteristic of quilts from that era. During the Depression years, women often created these intricate hexagon quilts from small pieces of fabric left from clothing and other sewing projects—turning scraps into something both useful and beautiful.
This original quilt has now been thoughtfully transformed into a cropped, relaxed-fit coat while preserving its beautiful hand-pieced flowers and nearly century-old character.
